Wait. What? Ok this is officially my first post and although I don't want to rag on DC, this just has to be said. I'll make up for it later in a cheesy, I-love-this-city-oh-it's-so-pretty post.
Evidently, the District of Columbia finds it critical to penalize those crazies crossing the streets when they shouldn't and where they shouldn't. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a big walker nor am I a fan of pedestrians but this is ridiculous. My friend walked into my office this morning, on the verge of tears, because a large policeman ticketed her on the street for crossing when the pedestrian light was red. $20. No, it's not the money, it's the principle. She argues the light was green and it was ok for her to walk, blah blah, but I was more baffled by the fact that a) unlike speeding in a vehicle, you cannot ask for "proof" from the officer (if you want to call him that, is that really your job, buddy??) for witnessing you allegedly jaywalking - it's basically his word against yours, and who's to say officers won't be ticketing random pedestrians left and right for commission now?, and b) yet again, the city has managed to use the police force for something OTHER than reducing crime, securing neighborhoods, etc.
Regardless, on my way to the CVS across the street, I waited patiently for the crosswalk light to turn green and I walked the white cross lines perfectly as if I was on a damn balance beam. Eh, I've never been much of a rebel.
